The digital privacy tools: your security toolbox
Password managers, VPNs, browsers and encryption: tools selected and validated by Applied Research, not by popularity
Every craftsman of their own security needs the right tools of the trade. In this section the Cyber Welfare team selects, tests and validates tools to help you protect your privacy and manage your online identity effectively. Our philosophy is not to hand you a simple list of software, but to recommend concrete solutions that have passed the tests of our Applied Research and integrate with the levels of the Framework. Below you will find the reviews of the evaluated tools, as they are published.
What you will find in this section
- Identity management: password managers and secure authentication systems: the foundations for protecting your credentials and accounts.
- Private browsing: verified browsers, extensions and VPNs, so you can choose knowingly how and with whom to share your online traces.
- Encrypted communication: secure messaging and email tools, for conversations that stay between you and the people you talk to.
- Data protection: backup and file encryption solutions, so your data remains yours even when something goes wrong.
- The selection criterion: every tool is chosen not for its popularity, but for its real capacity to promote your digital sovereignty and online wellbeing.
Why this section: the Cyber Welfare method
The Tools are the point where the Cyber Welfare Framework meets concrete technology: Applied Research tests the solutions, the Framework indicates at which level and for which need they serve, and this section presents them to you already verified. The behavior pillar benefits the most — a good tool, well chosen and used every day, turns security from an effort into a habit.
Who it is for
Users who want to know which tools to choose without getting lost among endless alternatives, people wary of commercial rankings who seek independent evaluations, organizations looking for verified solutions for their teams, and enthusiasts who want to understand the criteria behind every choice.
Requirements and details
This is the index page of the Tools: below this introduction you will find the reviews of the evaluated tools, as the laboratory completes its tests. The section is still being set up: the first categories in progress are identity, browsing, communication and data protection. Each review indicates the FL reference level.
Frequently asked questions
What criteria do you use to choose the tools?
Every tool must pass the tests of our Applied Research: technical reliability, adherence to privacy principles and everyday usability. Our commitment is to recommend solutions for their real capability, not for their popularity.
Why is the section still being set up?
Because testing takes time: our laboratory is defining the recommended tools for the first categories — password managers, VPNs and browsers, encrypted messaging, backup and encryption. We only publish what has passed verification.
Can I suggest a tool to test?
Yes: Cyber Welfare is a participatory project. Tell us about the tools you use or would like to see evaluated — community suggestions help the laboratory set its priorities.
Explore the tool reviews already published and let’s build the toolbox together: suggest a tool to test, or discover in the Framework at which level each category matters.
